George Schumacher, 90, of Endwell passed away peacefully on December 12, 2015 in Summerville, SC near the home of his youngest son, Eric Scott.
George was the first born son of Viola Esther and George Edwin Schumacher of Lindenwold, NJ and entered this world on December 19, 1924.
After high school, George joined the U.S. Navy in the communications corps where he attained the rank of Lieutenant JG. Once his tour of duty was completed, George attended college at Bucknell University where he met his loving wife of 59 years, Frances Louise.
In time, George earned his Ph.D. at Cornell University and did some post-doctoral research at the North Carolina State University.
It was his love of academia that led to his lifelong dream job when he became a college professor at Harpur College, which eventually became the University of Binghamton. It was when he was teaching and training the minds of young students that George was in his element whether teaching about the algaes or the plants of the world.
After a career of 35+ years at the University, George retired and travelled the world with Frances. George was preceded in death by his wife, Frances, and eldest son, George James. George is survived by his two sons, Eric and Brian, his daughter-in-law Kathy, and his 5 grandchildren, Emily, Amy, Anna, Danielle, and Dylan -
